How did siting planning begin?

March 28, 2007

In order to meet the requirements of the Minister of Environment and develop a strategy for wastewater treatment in June 2007, six wastewater treatment plant conceptual areas and a biosolids processing site were identified.

Data on the siting criteria were collected from published sources, interviews and field inspections. Using this information, an analysis was performed that rated suitability of land areas for a treatment facility. This analysis produced 12 maps, showing site suitability for each site selection topic. The maps can be viewed on the sidebar.

Further analysis was performed to identify sites most suitable for treatment facilities. After review by CALWMC and CRD Staff, a shortlist of potential sites was selected. The owners of the shortlisted properties were contacted and maps, showing the location of the sites, were made available to the public and First Nations for their review and input. Additionally, a preliminary environmental and social review of the shortlisted sites was performed.
